Richard Strauss: Also sprach Zarathustra (Thus Spoke Zarathustra) / Salome / Elektra
Strauss, who would celebrate his 150th birthday these days, was known for his symphonic poems. His “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” is one of the most popular classical melodies (2001 – A Space Odyssey). Also his operas “Salome” and “Elektra” are very famous.
On this 2CD major arias of these operas are included, as well as the symphonic poem “Thus Spoke Zarathustra”, both times played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by the legendary Fritz Reiner (1954-1955).
